How to play Carrom

Use a short break to learn the rhythm of Carrom. Clear your nine carrom men after the queen is covered. Check the relevant rule before repeating a move. Check the rule that explains your first action. Keep the game area visible while you use its controls.

Play a casual Carrom match using the house rules shown here. Tournament penalties and multi-board match scoring are not used.

Try a deliberate move

After a move, check what changed. Decide which rule explains the new state before acting again. Use the example to check your reasoning.

Your goal

Clear your nine carrom men after the queen is covered. Keep that objective in view throughout the round. Follow this game’s rules rather than another version’s.

Step by step

  1. White starts; set striker aim and power.
  2. Own-colour pockets earn another shot.
  3. Cover the queen with an own-colour man in the same or next shot.
  4. Striker fouls return one own pocketed man if available.
  5. Finish your colour after a covered queen.

Controls

Touch to aim; sliders set power and angle; striker-position controls and Shoot. Keep the playing area visible while using these controls. Use one clear input at a time.

A useful example

Queen and own man in one legal shot cover immediately. Focus on why the action is allowed, not only its outcome. Consider the next action carefully.

Watch out for this

The last own man returns if the queen remains uncovered. Compare the situation with the worked example. Take enough time to read a new position. If a game has a timer, learn its controls first rather than searching for them during the round.
