How to play Futoshiki

Take a moment with Futoshiki before moving to another game. Place 1–4 once in each row and column while obeying every inequality. Keep the game area visible while you use its controls. Treat the first round as a chance to learn the controls. Use the example below to understand a decision.

Twelve 4×4 puzzles with fixed starter values.

Notice the feedback

Watch the feedback after an action. A message can explain whether the input was accepted or whether a rule needs attention. Notice the feedback after each input.

Your goal

Place 1–4 once in each row and column while obeying every inequality. An attractive position is not enough unless the goal is met. Keep the controls in easy reach.

Step by step

  1. Select an editable square.
  2. Read inequalities by their row/column coordinates below the board.
  3. Enter 1–4.
  4. Check puzzle verifies both Latin-square rules and inequalities.

Controls

Click or tap squares or graph edges. Number boards include a digit pad. Undo reverses the previous change; Check puzzle validates the solution. Read a button’s label before selecting it. Use one clear input at a time.

A useful example

r1c2 < r1c3 means row 1 column 2 is smaller than row 1 column 3. Your next round may have a different position, so inspect it before acting. Consider the next action carefully.

Watch out for this

An inequality specifies order, not an exact difference. Read the feedback to see why an action did not have the expected result. Compare the worked example with your own position. Use the reasoning, not an answer copied from a different board.
